NYCFC, playing at Yankee Stadium, wasted no time asserting their dominance as Alex Callens scored off a free kick less than four minutes into proceedings.

Atlas goalkeeper Camilo Vargas fluffed his lines, allowing Callens to waltz in and slot the ball home into the empty net.

Less than ten minutes into the second half of the back-and-forth affair, NYCFC doubled their lead through Maxi Moralez.

After a well-worked piece of team play, Moralez completed a lovely run down the wing and produced an exquisite finish in the bottom corner.

On the short pitch, it’s little wonder why both clubs were able to produce a combined total of 37 shots (20-17 Atlas), with NYCFC goalkeeper Luis Barraza standing tall and making seven saves to earn a well-deserved clean sheet.

NYCFC will look to continue their momentum and clinch a playoff spot in the coming weeks as they are currently in fourth place in the Eastern Conference.

Atlas, meanwhile, have been in horrific domestic form, sitting second-bottom in the table, and are virtually eliminated from the Apertura playoffs, barring a major miracle.
