The Chicago Red Stars are showing their offseason improvement under new Head Coach Lorne Donaldson. After their opening 2-0 win against the Utah Royals, Chicago got their first 2W-0L start in history after defeating the Seattle Reign 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.

Brazilian international Julia Bianchi gave the Red Stars the advantage in the 41’ from just inside the box, beating GK Claudia Dickey to score her first NWSL goal. Seattle managed to pull one back in the 61’ thanks to Korean international Ji So-Yun, who fired in a great volley from outside the box to the top right corner.

However, Germany international Maxi Rall scored the winning goal in the 68’ when she received a pass from the left side, sending the ball to inside the back post to give Chicago their second win of the season.

More history was written on Wednesday evening when 3,000th goal of the NWSL regular season was scored by Spanish World Champion Esther Gonzalez in the 72’ with a one-touch in the box against the Portland Thorns to give current Champions NY/NJ Gothman their first win of the season.

Liga MX Femenil

The close of week 12 of the Liga MX Femenil saw great performances from teams in different positions in the table.

On Friday afternoon against Tijuana, Cruz Azul managed to get their first win after four straight losses. The 2-0 win started in the 1’, with Ximena Rios ready in the box to control the ball and get past the Tijuana defensive line to give La Maquina an early lead.

Ana Garcia Lopez kept their tally by scoring the second goal in the 31’ after she stole the ball from the home side’s defense, controlling the ball all the way to the area and finding the back of the net. Cruz Azul now has seven points in this Clausura 2024.

Current champions and leaders of the tournament Tigres Femenil added three more points after defeating fourth-place Guadalajara with a 1-0 win on Saturday evening.

World Cup Champion with Spain Jennifer Hermoso was the author of the sole goal of the match. Jacqueline Ovalle sent a ball into the box in the 22’ after a corner kick and Hermoso was ready with a header to the back of the net.
