Tottenham’s seemingly endless pursuit of a new manager has taken yet another twist this week, with former Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo emerging as the new ‘leading candidate’ for the role.

Spurs have endured a frustrating search in their bid to find a replacement for Jose Mourinho, having seen a whole host of managerial pursuits fall through since the Portuguese’s sacking in April.

The likes of Antonio Conte, Paulo Fonseca and Gennaro Gattuso have all been named as the leading candidate to take charge of the North London club, only to see talks break down, while moves for the likes of Julian Nagelsmann, Mauricio Pochettino and Erik ten Hag (have we missed anyone?) fail to materialise into anything tangible.

Earlier this week former Spurs striker Jurgen Klinsmann threw his name into the hat, whilst the club are also reported to have seen a ‘dizzying’ offer for Sevilla coach Julen Lopetegui turned down.

According to the BBC, Spurs have now turned to former Wolves boss Nuno, who is the latest man to be named as the ‘leading candidate’ for the position, with the 47-year-old having already held unsuccessful talks with both Crystal Palace and Everton this summer after leaving Molineux.

It seems the patient approach has paid off for Nuno, a parting of the ways following a disappointing season at Wolves followed by a potential role at one of the Premier League’s so-called ‘big six’.

The Portuguese spent four seasons with the club, winning promotion to the Premier League during his first campaign and securing back-to-back seventh-placed finishes before a disappointing 13th-placed finish last season.
