Thursday’s training session at Formello bore some encouraging updates for Lazio ahead of Inter Milan’s clash, but also some concerning news.
After securing a last-gasp draw against Juventus last Saturday, Marco Baroni’s men are preparing to take on the Nerazzurri at San Siro on Sunday night in an absolutely crucial fixture for both sides. While the reigning Italian champions have no other option to win in order to maintain their Scudetto hopes, the same goes for Lazio who are vying for the fourth Champions League place.
According to La Lazio Siamo Noi, the team received an important boost as Nuno Tavares rejoined his teammates in group training. The Portuguese sustained a series of muscular issues in recent months, and has been out since injuring himself in the second leg contest against Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League quarter-finals.
The 25-year-old left-back will be hoping for a call-up against Inter, even though he’s unlikely to start. Tavares’ return would be timely, given that Luca Pellegrini will miss the contest while serving a one-match ban. Adam Marusic remains the favorite to start on the left side.
But as the source explains, Baroni’s biggest headache at the moment is on the wings. While Mattia Zaccagni is suspended against Simone Inzaghi’s side, Gustav Isaksen has missed training for the second day in a row due to a muscle problem. The Dane will be hoping to recover in time, but the manager is already studying alternative solutions.
The report reveals that Baroni is considering playing Pedro on the right wing, while Fisayo Dele-Bashiry and Tijjani Noslin are vying for a spot on the opposite flank.
Lazio Probable XI (4-2-3-1): Mandas; Lazzari, Gila, Romagnoli, Marusic; Guendouzi, Rovella; Pedro, Dia, Dele-Bashiru/Noslin; Castellanos.
