Not many headlines were made when Wolves paid Barcelona (Ecuador) a nominal fee to land 19-year-old striker Leonardo Campana.

Campana, who already has four senior caps to his name, started attracting loads of attention last summer when he bagged six goals in nine games at the South American U-20 Championship to lead Ecuador to their first-ever title.

Though Campana was originally slated to join the U-23s, he is currently in Marbella, Spain training with the Wolves first-team and Nuno has hinted he could have a role to play this season.

“He arrived and he has been training with us,” Nuno said. “He finished his participation with the national team. I think he’s adapting.

“It’s about progressing and improving him and turning him into a good option for us. He’s working well.

“He’s a good player. Hopefully, you can see for yourself, but I think that he’s a good option.

“He’s a good back-up to have. He’s a player that we want to improve and make better.

“That is our philosophy – always trying to bring in players that we feel have space for improvement.”

After the lengthy Premier League break, Wolves will host Leicester on Friday, 14 February.
