Nuno expresses delight at Tottenham’s penalty practice paying off in EFL Cup win vs Wolves

Tottenham manager Nuno Espirito Santo gives his verdict on Wolves win

Speaking in the post-match presser (h/t Football.london), Nuno Espirito Santo felt that it was a game of two halves as Tottenham Hotspur edged Wolves. The away side won the EFL tie via a tiebreaker as both sides headed into it at 2-2.

It was a mini homecoming for our gaffer as he visited his old side at the Molineux. Spurs were in dire need of a win as they had not picked up one in three games. It was a bright start as Tanguy Ndombele and Harry Kane put the visitors ahead by two goals. Wolves made a comeback and kept the match level.

Chances were coming from both ends and it looked as if the game would eventually have a winner. However, it went to the shootout as Wolves ended up missing three of their shots while Spurs missed one. It was enough to hand them the win at 3-2 and they will now face Burnley in the next round.

Nuno Espirito Santo was impressed with the first half and praised the side for their performance.

“Different, different, different moments of the game but honestly I think we allowed Wolves to get back in the game. The first half we started really well. We were really good and we dominated, we pressed, we recovered balls and we created so many chances to put the game to bed.”

Kane added another for Spurs

With two goals being conceded in the second half, the boss was really displeased with the performance. However, he was happy to have won the game and was glad that the work his players put in practising penalties paid off.

“I think we started the second half well, we had chances but then the atmosphere of Molineux is hard… Then the penalties I think is honestly is a task of possibility. The boys prepared well yesterday and we spent a lot of time preparing because it’s not luck. t’s having a goalkeeper who has the right info and it’s having the players making their responsibility and the tasks that they have to do it. ”

Spurs will take this win either way as it was their first since the international break. Quite a few things were pleasing while some were not. Now, it will be all about keeping this going as Arsenal are our next opponents on the weekend.
