The Mirror's Dan Marsh has reported that last season's beaten fourth tier play-off semi-finalists are in talks over a loan move for the exciting 20-year-old, who has previously captained the under-21 side at Carrington.

Last season, Aljofree enjoyed his first loan spell away from Old Trafford with fellow League Two side Accrington Stanley, impressing with three goals in 25 games, despite Accrington's poor form across the whole campaign.

It seems that Ruben Amorim is happy to keep the 2004-born star away from the club to help develop him in the senior game, and a move to Notts County now seems likely.

Dan Marsh has reported that Notts County are in talks with Manchester United starlet Sonny Alfofree over a potential loan move.

Aljofree was a substitute in the Red Devils' FA Youth Cup final win in 2022 over Nottingham Forest, aged just 17, and has since gone on to enjoy a successful career in the club's youth system.

The centre-back began the 2024/25 season as the under-21's captain, leading his side out for the opening two games of the Premier League 2 season, before he made the loan switch to Accrington Stanley, where he experienced his first taste of senior football.

He started 24 League Two games last season and scored three times, including in a vital game against Carlisle United towards the end of the season.

There was a period between February and April when the 20-year-old was seemingly out of favour, but Aljofree started the final four games of the campaign under John Doolan as Accrington ended up surviving by eight points.

Now, the exciting centre-back looks set for a League Two loan once again, but this time to the promotion-challenging Notts County, who are desperate to right the wrongs of last season under new manager Martin Paterson.

Notts County will be a good place for Sonny Aljofree to continue his development

After tasting the drama of a relegation scrap during his first season in senior football, a step-up to a side challenging near the top end of the same division would be a good move for Sonny Aljofree.

Notts are yet to sign a centre-back this season, and are still looking to replace the holes left by the departing Kyle Cameron and Robbie Cundy in their backline.

Some may call it a risk, as Aljofree was at times deemed not good enough to play in the Accrington backline last season, but Martin Paterson seems keen to trust his development heading into the new campaign.

Notts' defence improved tenfold between their first season back in the EFL and last season, conceding 37 fewer goals across the campaign. They'll be hoping that a possible loan addition of Sonny Aljofree can shore up their backline even further.
