Jack Wilshere is featuring high on the bookmakers' odds to be the next manager at Notts County.

Stuart Maynard was dismissed earlier this month following the club’s failure to secure promotion to League One.

The 44-year-old guided the Magpies to a sixth place finish, but a play-off semi-final defeat to AFC Wimbledon meant they’ll be competing in League Two next season.

The bookies have installed the former Norwich City coach as a potential replacement for Maynard following his exit from Carrow Road at the end of the campaign.

Jack Wilshere appointment claim

When asked about the possibility of Wilshere’s appointment, FLW’s Notts County fan pundit Gareth Parr claimed it would be an exciting move.

He believes it would fit with the club’s philosophy in terms of play style, as well as their desire to develop young coaches.

“Jack Wilshere is an interesting choice in my eyes,” Parr told Football League World.

“The style he plays fits with the club’s philosophy, possession-based.

“He’s obviously looking for a decent full-time coaching role, and I think it would be exciting.

“I definitely think it would be something that would get the crowd motivated, plays in the right way for the owners and is the kind of risk that the owners are generally looking to take.

“They’re looking to develop in a sustainable manner, so you’d hope that his wages would be lower.

“I think it would be, personally, a good decision.

“I think a lot of the fan base are expecting someone more experienced to try and help drive the club forward.

“But I think the club’s philosophy is definitely towards development of someone coming up in the ranks.”

Notts County finished six points adrift of the automatic promotion places, leaving them sixth in the League Two table under Maynard.

Wilshere appointment could be quite exciting

Notts County narrowly missed out on promotion, so will be hoping to appoint someone that can get the team over the line next season.

Wilshere is inexperienced as a coach at senior level, but has worked under Johannes Hoff Thorup at Norwich, as well as in the Arsenal academy setup as the U18 manager.

He will now want to take that next step up, and a move to League Two with the Magpies could be quite an exciting opportunity.

They are an ambitious club looking to climb the football pyramid, so this could be a move that suits all parties, as long as Wilshere is willing to start his managing career in League Two.
