Nottingham Forest will be without striker Chris Wood for the remainder of the campaign, head coach Steve Cooper confirmed on Thursday.

“Chris Wood is out for the season,” Cooper said. “He’s picked up an injury during the international break.”

The forward has made seven Premier League appearances since his January move from Newcastle, scoring once to equalise in the 1-1 draw against champions Manchester City.

And there was more bad news for Forest fans as the team prepares for Saturday’s visit of Wolves.

“Serge Aurier, André Ayew and Gustavo Scarpa have picked up some injuries over the break as well,” Cooper continued.

“We’re not sure how long they will be out for or what their availability will be available for the next few games.

“Taiwo Awoniyi and Cheikhou Kouyaté are back in full training, and obviously Moussa (Niakhaté) is back now having played the last game and then making his international debut for Senegal.

“It’s just something we have to deal with, we’ll put our focus into the players who are available and who are training ready to play the next game and commit to them guys.”

Forest are just two points above the relegation zone and have not won any of their last six league games.
