Nottingham Forest will ‘do everything to keep’ star forward Brennan Johnson at the club for at least another season, journalist Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport.

The 21-year-old has been in impressive form for his boyhood club over the last 18 months, helping Forest return to the Premier League following a 23-year absence.

Last season, Johnson played a pivotal role as Steve Cooper’s charges won promotion from the Championship by beating Huddersfield Town in the play-off final at Wembley.

The Wales international racked up 19 goals and nine assists in 53 appearances, a return that attracted the attention of several top-flight sides including Brentford.

According to The Telegraph, Forest rejected a club-record offer from the Bees for Johnson that totalled around £18 million as they were determined to retain his services.

And the two-time European champions were rewarded for their cold decision when Johnson put pen to paper on a new four-year contract worth £30,000-per-week in the summer.

The versatile attacker has once again been a key component of Cooper’s charges in the current campaign, potentially putting him on the radar of some of the Premier League’s top teams.

What has Jones said about Johnson?

Jones has told GMS that Forest ‘don’t want to lose’ Johnson and that they will be eager for some continuity after so many incomings and outgoings over the last six months or so.

He said: “There's been, obviously, so much upheaval that they need to try and have some consistency in their line-up, and this turnover of players obviously has to stop at some point.

“They don't want to lose him, and I think they'll do everything to keep him at the club for at least another year.”

How big a loss would Johnson be?

Johnson has been instrumental in Forest pulling away from the bottom three in the Premier League of late and is the club’s top scorer in all competitions.

The creative talent has registered seven goals and two assists in 27 outings throughout 2022/23 while also putting up some solid underlying numbers.

As per WhoScored, Johnson has produced 1.6 shots, 0.8 key passes, and 0.9 dribbles per top-flight fixture, placing him in the top three for all metrics amongst his teammates.

Losing Johnson would be a bitter blow for Cooper to take, therefore, and everyone associated with Forest will surely be hoping he stays put for the foreseeable future.
