After occupying second spot for a good while this season, many expected Nottingham Forest to secure a spot in the Champions League. However, it’s been a turbulent last month for Nuno’s side, with just one win in their last five league outings. Still, they possess the joint-best defensive record in the division, having only conceded 13 goals in 17 matches. Leicester may have won against Southampton last week, but they have earned just one point in their last six away from the King Power. Forest will be desperate to win this game with fixtures against West Ham and Chelsea remaining, and backing them at 5/4 looks a nice angle into this game.
Nikola Milenkovic has been one of the standout performers this season for Forest. The centre-back has proved effective in both boxes having scored four goals in the league this term. Only four players for the club have managed more league goals this term, and he averages just under one shot per game. Murillo’s equaliser against Crystal Palace was Nottingham Forest’s 15th goal from a set piece in the Premier League this season (ex. penalties); only Arsenal and Crystal Palace (both 16) have scored more. Indeed, six of their last 12 league goals have come from set pieces (5x corner, 1x free kick).
Nottingham Forest will need to put their FA Cup semi-final disappointment behind them with three Premier League games to navigate, which could lead to Champions League football being played at the City Ground next season. Not since the second of their European Cup defences have Forest dined at the highest seat of UEFA club competitions, and under Nuno Espírito Santo’s leadership, they are on the cusp of making history. After 35 games, they find themselves in sixth place, two points behind fifth-place Chelsea, who are level on points with Newcastle in fourth.
Things could not be any more different for their East Midlands rivals Leicester, who have suffered the ignominy of relegation after one season away from the bright lights. Under two different managers, the Foxes could only muster five wins from their opening 25 matches, while suffering the second-most losses (24) of this campaign; only in 1977–78 and 1994–95 have they ever lost more in a single league campaign in their history, both with 25 losses. An issue has been that they conceded first in 29 of their 34 Premier League games this season—the most ever by a side in a single 38-game campaign in the competition.
Nottingham Forest will be without Callum Hudson-Odoi. Murillo is a doubt for the hosts, with Morato ready to step in if called upon.
Issahaku Fatawu and Stephy Mavididi are ruled out for Leicester until the forthcoming Championship season, while there is no return date for
Nottingham Forest are seeking a third successive league win over Leicester City, a feat they last achieved between February 1994 and March 1995.
