Nottingham Forest have submitted a bid for Arsenal goalkeeper Matt Turner with “talks advancing”, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Steve Cooper’s side are desperate to sign a new goalkeeper with Dean Henderson and Keylor Navas both returning to their parent clubs after loan spells at the City Ground.

Turner moved to Arsenal last summer from New England Revolution for an initial $6m with the fee potentially rising to $10m depending on add-ons.

The USA international has played seven times for the Gunners in all competitions but is yet to make a Premier League appearance for Mikel Arteta’s side heading into the new season.

And now Romano has claimed that Nottingham Forest have made their opening bid for the 29-year-old with a potential deal leaving Arsenal to complete a move for Brentford’s David Raya.

Romano wrote on Twitter: “Nottingham Forest submitted an official bid for Matt Turner. Understand the proposal has been made for permanent transfer, talks advancing with Arsenal. Crucial step in goalkeepers domino as #AFC keep negotiating with Brentford for David Raya, deal getting closer.”

Nottingham Forest are reportedly looking to sign two goalkeepers this summer with Manchester United’s Henderson also linked with a move.

There are rumours that Man Utd want as much as £30m for the former Sheffield United loanee this summer but more recent reports now claim that they are prepared to settle for a loan deal with an obligation to buy.

It is unclear whether an imminent deal for Turner means a deal for Henderson is proving difficult or whether the Arsenal goalkeeper will play back-up to Henderson.

A report in The Athletic on Wednesday gave an update on Nottingham Forest’s pursuit of Henderson. The article by Paul Taylor read:

‘Forest’s efforts to sign two goalkeepers continue, with Dean Henderson remaining their primary target. The last remaining stumbling block in securing a deal to sign him from Manchester United is reaching an agreement with their Premier League rivals over the precise terms of what would initially be a loan move. ‘Both clubs want an obligation-to-buy clause to be included in the deal, but United want that to happen after he has made a single-figure number of appearances, while Forest would prefer that number to be closer to 30. ‘Henderson made a positive impact during his loan spell last season, when the 26-year-old former England player made 18 Premier League starts. But he also missed the second half of the campaign with a thigh injury, which he is still recovering from. He is unlikely to be fit to face Arsenal on the opening day.’

Taylor added:

‘Forest do have Wales international Wayne Hennessey, 36, on their books and the club are comfortable retaining him as backup, but would like to sign two further keepers to push for a starting place.’
