Nottingham Forest have announced the signing of former Charlton Athletic forward Melissa Johnson on a one-year deal.

The Tricky Trees confirmed the transfer via a post on their official club website this evening.

Johnson joins Nottingham Forest on a free transfer after leaving former club Charlton Athletic earlier this summer. She becomes the first signing of the new full-time professional era at the East Midlands club.

The 32-year-old has spent several years playing her football in the Barclays Women’s Championship. Johnson has turned out for Sheffield FC, Leicester City, Aston Villa, Sheffield United, Bristol City and Charlton Athletic in English football’s second tier. The forward has scored more than 50 goals at that level and was the league’s joint-highest goalscorer just two seasons ago.

Johnson’s latest club Nottingham Forest are determined to win promotion to the Barclays Women’s Championship themselves and they will be hoping that the player’s goals will help them to achieve their dreams.

After joining Nottingham Forest, Johnson said “I’m really happy to be here and I can’t wait to get started. The Club’s got a really big history and what the owner and everyone at Forest are doing is fantastic, they’re really pushing the Club and I can’t wait to be a part of it.”

Nottingham Forest kick-off the 2024/2025 FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division season at Stoke City on Sunday 18 August 2024.
