The Canaries get their 2025/26 Championship campaign underway with a home clash against Millwall on August 9.

This will be Liam Manning’s first competitive test as Norwich manager, after leaving Bristol City to replace Johannes Hoff Thorup earlier this summer.

Gunn’s second spell at Carrow Road finished at the end of June following the expiration of his contract.

The 29-year-old was a regular performer for Norwich last term, featuring 35 times in the Championship and ended the campaign as their first-choice shot-stopper.

However, the Scotsman decided that it was time to pursue pastures new, and his next destination has now been revealed.

According to The Athletic, Nottingham Forest are closing in on securing Gunn’s signature.

The Premier League outfit won’t pay a transfer fee due to the goalkeeper now being a free agent.

Norwich forked out £5 million when signing the 29-year-old from Southampton in 2021, but won’t recoup any of that money back.

Gunn made 172 appearances for the Canaries across his two stints at Carrow Road, which included a season-long loan during the 2017/18 campaign.

The Scottish international will likely play back up to Matz Sels at Forest, who shared the Premier League’s golden glove award with Arsenal ‘keeper David Raya.

Following Gunn’s exit, Norwich City have recruited three different profiles who could potentially replace the 29-year-old in between the sticks at Carrow Road.

However, it still isn’t crystal clear as to who will assume the mantle.

The Canaries acquired Vladan Kovacevic from Sporting CP at the end of June, who looks to be the most likely contender to start against Millwall, after doing so in the Norfolk outfit’s recent friendly with NAC Breda.

Daniel Grimshaw and Louie Moulden have both also been brought to the club this summer and could make their own claim for the No.1 spot.

The former fell out of favour at Plymouth Argyle last season under Miron Muslić, who opted to deploy Conor Hazard instead.

That said, Grimshaw does have extensive EFL experience and could therefore be a contender to start if Kovacevic fails to adapt to the English game.

23-year-old Moulden was signed following the expiration of his contract at Crystal Palace, after previous stints at Manchester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Perhaps not a realistic option to start the season, the young 'keeper will have a view of breaking into the first team eventually and could look to use his experience within the aforementioned Premier League outfits to beat out Kovacevic and Grimshaw.

Therefore, Manning could have some key decisions to make regarding his goalkeeping situation if one clear contender doesn’t stand out immediately.
