Nottingham Forest are preparing for a crucial summer in the transfer market, with plans to bring in at least five new signings ahead of a return to European football. The East Midlands club are plotting moves for two forwards, a left-back, two wingers and a goalkeeper as they aim to enhance squad depth and quality in anticipation of a demanding campaign.
Under Nuno Espírito Santo, Forest are pushing for a top-four Premier League finish that could yield a Champions League place, though Europa League qualification remains more likely. Regardless, the club’s hierarchy is planning assertively, with a streamlined 22-man squad required to comply with UEFA competition regulations.
Having spent over £250 million since promotion in 2022, Forest are expected to operate within a refined budget this summer, targeting players valued between £20 million and £30 million. Strategic recruitment has paid off previously, with the likes of Murillo (£10 million), Callum Hudson-Odoi (£3 million), and Anthony Elanga (£13.5 million) delivering excellent returns.
At left-back, Forest have identified Adrien Truffert of Rennes as a priority signing. The 23-year-old France international has been monitored for over a year and is viewed as a natural fit for Forest’s high-tempo style. This need is heightened by the return of Alex Moreno to Aston Villa and uncertainty surrounding Harry Toffolo’s contract status.
Truffert’s arrival would support the development of Neco Williams, who has enjoyed a breakout season but is better deployed in a right-sided role. The left-back position is seen as vital given the increased fixture load next season.
Further forward, Forest are also pursuing James McAtee of Manchester City. The creative midfielder, who impressed during his loan at Sheffield United, fits the club’s long-term profile and could provide additional attacking spark—particularly if Morgan Gibbs-White departs.
Forest remain interested in Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap, valued around £30 million after Ipswich’s relegation. While Manchester United, Chelsea, and Newcastle have all shown interest, Forest believe Delap’s profile suits their tactical setup.
Yoane Wissa of Brentford continues to be on the radar after previous interest in consecutive windows. Forest would likely return with a bid if the fee aligns with internal valuations.
Mateus Fernandes of Southampton is another name under consideration. At 20, the midfielder aligns with Forest’s strategy of developing young talent with high ceilings.
There is no financial pressure to sell to meet Profitability and Sustainability Rules, with the club posting a pre-tax profit of £12.1 million. However, sales are expected to create space and elevate overall squad quality. The future of Morgan Gibbs-White will be central to shaping transfer activity, with Manchester City continuing to monitor the England international.
Forest will also focus on retaining key players. Neco Williams is set to be offered an improved deal after a stellar campaign, and early talks have taken place with Hudson-Odoi about enhanced terms. Ola Aina, another standout performer, is expected to sign a new contract after triggering a one-year extension.
Defensive duo Murillo and Chris Wood have already committed their futures, but other players—particularly those out on loan or on the fringes—will be moved on.
Tyler Bindon, signed from Reading in January, is expected to feature in pre-season before potentially being loaned to the Championship. The 20-year-old New Zealand international is viewed as a player with long-term potential.
Behind the scenes, Evangelos Marinakis’s football empire is set to gain a major addition. Edu, formerly of Arsenal, is expected to join in a senior role overseeing global football operations across Marinakis’s portfolio. Discussions are ongoing, but the Brazilian’s arrival is now considered imminent.
Pre-season preparations are being finalised, with Forest likely to hold a training camp in Spain or Portugal. A tour of the United States or Australia was deemed commercially unfeasible. Players have already highlighted last summer’s Murcia camp as a key contributor to this season’s progress.
As Nuno stated: “People in the club are dealing with next season, not us as coaching staff. This moment requires everything that you have for the responsibilities ahead of us. The recruitment staff and scouting team will be working on that and there will be the right moment to speak and sit down.”
