Forest’s first offer, reportedly below €10m, was rejected by Mainz who value Niakhaté at around €15m. However, the 26-year-old is entering the final year of his contract and is expected to leave the Bundesliga side for around €12m-€13m.

M05 sporting director Christian Heidel has repeatedly made is clear that he doesn’t want to go into the season with 12 months remaining on Niakhaté’s contract and with no extension in sight, the former French youth international is expected to leave the club this summer.

Since his €6m move from Mets in 2018, Niakhaté has played 128 Bundesliga games for Mainz.
