He has only started twice this season, with a further five appearances off the bench.

While he flourished under Karanka, Martin O’ Neill and Sabri Lamouchi used him much more sparingly.

This led to Carvalho leaving the club on loan, joining Segunda Division club Almeria last season.

Carvalho has had a divisive time with the club, with fans hoping for more from him. However, it increasingly looks like his time is up with the club with Olympiacos now showing their interest in bringing him to Greece.

Nottingham Forest are 10th in the Championship, with 37 points from 26 games. Steve Cooper’s side won last weekend, with a 1-0 victory away at Millwall.

A 91st minute winner courtesy of Lewis Grabban sealed the three points, which put them five points behind the play-off places.

The Verdict

Considering the figure spent to bring Carvalho to the City Ground, this transfer simply hasn’t worked out.

One decent season under Karanka hasn’t been enough to live up to expectation and now the pressure is simply too much for him to ever perform well for the club again.

Cashing in and selling to Olympiacos is the best move at this point. They will be unable to make back the money they sunk in bringing Carvalho to the club.

But getting rid now will free up some space on the wage bill and bring in some money that could potentially be used on an incoming signing this January.
