John Terry could be put off applying for the Nottingham Forest manager's job because of the club's trigger-happy owners, according to Express & Star journalist Luke Hatfield.

What's the latest news involving Terry?

Forest are on the lookout for a new manager after a miserable start to the season led to Chris Hughton being sacked yesterday.

Hughton's departure came with the club rooted to the bottom of the Championship standings having taken just one point from seven outings.

Former England international defender Terry has been linked to the City Ground job and, earlier this week, was said to be interested.

However, Terry then took to social media to distance himself from speculation linking him to the job while Hughton was still in the hotseat.

Terry has yet to move into a managerial role since hanging up his boots but is available after leaving his role as assistant head coach at Aston Villa during the summer.

The 40-year-old has also made no secret of the fact he wants to secure a top job after experiencing life as an assistant.

What has Luke Hatfield said about Terry?

Evangelos Marinakis and Sokratis Kominakis bought Championship club Forest in May 2017 and Hughton has become the seventh permanent or interim manager to be shown the door since.

Journalist Hatfield believes that record could put Terry off starting his managerial career at the City Ground.

However, he admits to knowing the former Chelsea captain is on the lookout for the right opportunity having left Villa Park.

Hatfield told GMS: "There may be some question marks over how quickly the ownership act.

"I'm sure John Terry's very relaxed about the situation. He's come out on the record recently saying that he's relaxed about it and he's happy to wait and see which jobs come his way.

"If I were him, there would certainly be some scepticism about that job, just given the position they're in."

Who else has been linked with the job?

Steve Cooper is a leading candidate to be appointed as Hughton's successor.

The 41-year-old is currently without a job after leaving Forest's Championship rivals Swansea City in July, merely months after leading the Welsh side to the play-off final before being beaten by Brentford.

Cooper also previously managed England at under-16 and under-17 level, guiding the latter to World Cup success in 2017.
