Nottingham Forest have been linked with a summer move for Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have taken the league by storm this season. They currently sit third in the table, ahead of Chelsea and Manchester City.
With the Champions League in sight, the club is planning for next season and aims to improve their squad with additional firepower.
Forest have identified Cunha as a top target. They made enquiries for the Brazilian forward in January but were met with resistance from Wolves.
However, Cunha may be open to leaving Molineux. Forest are prepared to break their transfer record to secure his services.
They previously spent £35 million on Elliott Anderson, but signing Cunha would cost significantly more, as he has a release clause of £62m.
Cunha has been one of Wolves’ standout players this season, despite the team struggling in the league. He has registered 13 goals and four assists, proving his worth as a reliable goalscorer.
Forest’s leading scorer, Chris Wood, has netted 18 league goals this season. While this is an impressive tally, relying on the aging striker long-term may not be wise.
Signing Cunha would provide fresh energy and more goalscoring options for Forest. One key factor that makes Cunha an attractive signing is his experience in high-pressure games.
He has played in the Champions League with Atletico Madrid, gaining valuable experience at the top level. His composure and ability to perform in big matches would be a great asset for Forest.
Cunha’s versatility would allow Nuno to adjust tactics based on Forest’s opponents, giving the team more attacking options.
He would increase competition for places in the squad. Callum Hudson-Odoi and Anthony Elanga would have to raise their game to secure regular starts.
This competition would help maintain high standards and improve overall squad depth.
The Brazilian forward recently signed a new deal with Wolves, which includes a £62m release clause. Forest would have to break their transfer record to sign him.
Arsenal have also been linked with the Brazilian. If Forest are to sign the 25-year-old star, they will have to fend off strong competition.
It would be a statement of intent to sgn Cunha as Forest try to cement their place among the top teams in the Premier League.
He would provide goals, creativity and much-needed experience to the team’s attack.
