Nottingham Forest are showing a firm interest in Ghana international striker Andre Ayew, reports Daily Mail journalist Tom Collomosse.

The 33-year-old is a free agent after terminating his contract with Qatari club Al Sadd.

Everton are also interested in signing Ayew, and he is set to fly into England for talks.

The former Swansea City star has held preliminary talks with Toffees sporting director Kevin Thelwell.

Everton are now weighing up handing Ayew a contract until the end of the season.

However, Forest are looking to hijack the deal as they bid to bolster their attack.

Manager Steve Cooper worked with Ayew at Swansea, and a reunion could be on the cards.

The former West Ham United man netted 22 goals in 38 games for Al Sadd.

He joined them in July 2021 but could soon be playing Premier League football again.

Forest have scored 16 league goals and Everton 15 this season. Both sides need a quality finisher in the mould of Ayew.

The Toffees failed to land any players during the January transfer window and can only sign free agents.

They attempted to sign Arnaut Danjuma and Kamaldeen Sulemana but were beaten by Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton, respectively.

According to the Daily Mail, a move for Watford’s Ismaila Sarr also failed, and late enquiries for Crystal Palace duo Odsonne Edouard and Jean-Philippe Mateta were rebuffed.

Forest could further compound their woes by pipping them to Ayew’s signature.
