Manchester United will be looking to generate some funds by way of player sales this summer, with the uncertainty over the club’s ownership running the risk of plaguing a crucial summer.

Erik ten Hag is set to initiate phase two of his rebuild of the club and to do that, he will need to strengthen the squad further and as things stand, it’s not looking likely that he will be given the funds to do that.

That could force United’s hand in some cases but Dean Henderson, who spent this season on loan at Nottingham Forest, has always been a player likely to leave.

Henderson pushed for a move last summer and the goalkeeper is not popular with supporters following some ill-advised interviews.

Now, after Forest secured Premier League safety in their first season back in England’s top flight, it has been reported that Steve Cooper’s men are closing in on bringing Henderson back to the City Ground.

That’s according to the Daily Mail, who say that Forest have a deal in place to sign Henderson this summer. After undergoing major surgery on their squad last summer, it now looks like their first-choice goalkeeper will remain the same as they prepare for another Premier League campaign.

SN’s verdict… Henderson was tipped to replace David de Gea as United’s number one shot-stopper but for a number of reasons, that has not happened and as things stand, Ten Hag will view him as a source of transfer funds over anything else.

Keeping the player around would only bring trouble and cashing in on the asset feels like the right decision, especially considering De Gea is expected to sign a new two-year deal imminently.
