Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher could spark a bidding war this summer with Nottingham Forest and Celtic interested in signing him, according to the Daily Mail.

The Irish goalie attracted interest from Forest in the January transfer window. The relegation-threatened side saw him as a solution in goal, with Matt Turner and Odysseas Vlachodimos floundering.

Liverpool rejected their advances, but reports suggest Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo remains a big admirer of Kelleher.

Kelleher’s impressive displays have undoubtedly strengthened Liverpool’s bargaining position. The 25-year-old has deputised adeptly in Alisson’s absence for the past eight games.

He was particularly excellent as the Reds claimed the League Cup against Chelsea, with captain Virgil Van Dijk hailing him as ‘world-class’. Manager Jurgen Klopp has named him the best number two in the world.

Liverpool wouldn’t necessarily block his path if he wants a first-team role elsewhere, but his price has shot up, and the Reds will demand a premium.

Forest are expected to renew their pursuit, but they face stiff competition. Celtic are also keen, although their chances of luring him away seem slim due to the likely asking price.

Liverpool will need a new number two to replace the Irishman if he departs Anfield this summer.

The Reds have retained their interest in Sunderland’s 23-year-old shot-stopper Anthony Patterson, who was first linked in January.

Patterson is a former England youth international and has been a vital figure for the Black Cats this season, keeping 13 clean sheets in 43 Championship appearances.

Liverpool’s third-choice keeper Adrian will be out of contract this summer and is unlikely to be offered a new deal.
