Forest finally win in extra time after incredible effort from Tangerines

Scorers: Morgan 60′, Joseph 78′; Omobamidele 7′, Danilo 46′, Wood 107′

Forest had the first chance, defender Murillo’s header being well saved by Blackpool keeper Dan Grimshaw at a corner.

The Premier League club did open the scoring in the 17th minute through another defender. On his debut for the club, Andrew Omobamidele was on hand to slip the ball into the net after Nicolas Domínguez’s corner found its way towards him.

Forest were in cruise control for the remainder of the first half, with the two division gap being evident at Bloomfield Park. However, they did not grab that crucial second goal, giving the Tangerines hope.

Just a minute into the second half they did though, Danilo firing home with left-footed shot from the centre of the box after Blackpool’s attempt at playing out from the back fell apart in spectacular fashion.

Blackpool found a way back into the game on the hour mark with their first real attack of the half. Forest failed to clear the ball, and Albie Morgan fired into the top corner from just outside the box.

Dominguez nearly restored Forest’s two-goal lead shortly after, his strike from 20 yards out being deflected narrowly wide.

The Tangerines made it 2-2 in the 78th minute and it came via a direct throw from Andy Lyons. Forest struggled to deal with it again and sub striker Kyle Joseph was on hand to head in from close range to spark wild scenes.

Both sides came close to late winners but 30 more minutes and possibly penalties were needed to separate them.

Into extra time, Blackpool sub keeper Richard O’Donnell made a great stop from Danilo. The flag did go up directly after but it was the veteran’s latest top save.

Forest retook the lead in the 107th minute through Chris Wood. The big New Zealander fired home from close range after Ryan Yates put the ball across the box towards him.

The Reds had chances to finally finish off the game but it mattered little as they booked their spot in the fourth round after three and a half hours of pulsating action with the League One side.

Next up is a trip to West Ham’s conquerors, Bristol City.

Gomes fires Everton past Palace and into the fourth round

Scorers: Gomes 42′

Everton started the stronger, dominating possession but making very few chances – they have failed to score in their last three outings.

Their first chance fell to Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who did well to fashion a shot from a tight angle. Palace keeper Sam Johnstone was a match for it, however.

In a tame first half, the other decent chances came to Palace. Eberechi Eze came closest but Joao Virginia did very well to keep his shot out, while Jeffrey Schlupp fired wide.

The Toffees got the opening goal just before half time via André Gomes, who curled a wonderful 20-yard free kick home. It was the Portuguese midfielder’s second goal since his return to the first-team in late December.

Everton again had Virginia to thank in the second half as he saved well from Odsonne Edouard. Deep into added time, he did it once more, ensuring his side’s win with another top stop from David Ozoh.

Everton will face Luton in the next round in another all-Premier League clash.

Norwich book trip to Anfield with comeback win at Bristol Rovers

Scorers: McCormick 20′; Sara 53′, Idah (pen) 59′, McClean

Rovers had the first opening of the game, Luke Thomas’ looping header being gathered by Norwich stopper George Long.

They built on their strong start and took the lead in the 20th minute. A corner found its way to the edge of the box, where striker Luke McCormick was on hand to smash home a volley into the bottom left-hand corner.

Norwich rebounded early into the second half, turning the game on its head in six minutes.

First, Gabriel Sara tapped home in the 53rd minute after Sam McCallum’s curled effort hit the post and fell in front of the Brazilian. Then, Adam Idah slotted home a penalty following a Rovers foul on Jonathan Rowe.

Norwich finished the job with three minutes to go, Kenny McLean striking home with a lovely finish from outside the box.

Anfield awaits.
