Nottingham Forest have no intention of letting forward Brennan Johnson leave the City Ground following the wide man’s recent impressive run of form, transfer insider Dean Jones has suggested to GiveMeSport.

The 21-year-old has adapted well to the step up from the Championship to the Premier League this season.

Johnson has enjoyed an excellent run of form of late and most recently scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory over Leeds United last weekend, a result which has pulled Forest six points clear of the relegation zone.

Garibaldi Red boss Steve Cooper was full of praise for the forward following the win, saying: "We're really happy seeing Brennan feel like he belongs at the level and that he can make a difference. It was a brilliant goal. You don't get many chances in this league. He scored a load of goals last year. He was getting more chances than what he'll get this year, but at the moment he's taking his opportunities. That's what players who play in that position and end up doing well in this league do.”

Indeed, Johnson scored 16 Championship goals last season, a tally which led the East Midlands giants to a play-off final appearance against Huddersfield Town, securing their promotion following a 1-0 victory at Wembley.

And Jones believes that the academy product’s performances could potentially mean that “a few clubs” will be tracking the attacker at the time of writing.

Jones told GiveMeSport: “I think a few clubs will be tracking him but at the moment Forest just aren't going to let him go anywhere. They are so pleased by what he's been able to achieve with them. He's such a big part of what they've got there at the moment.”

How has Johnson performed for Nottingham Forest this season?

Johnson – who has been described as “wonderful” by Wales manager Robert Page – has gradually adjusted to the step-up from the Championship to the Premier League and could now prove to be a pivotal cog in Forest’s attempts to stay in the league.

The £30,000 per-week earner has hit the back of the net five times and provided two assists in 21 top-flight appearances this season, showing that he is a steady if not electric provider of goals for the newly-promoted side.

The 18-cap Wales international also compares favourably with some of his positional peers on the continent, ranking in the top 7% of forwards across Europe’s big five leagues as well as the Champions League and Europa League for blocks (1.11) and top 12% for progressive carries per 90 minutes (2.64) over the last 365 days, according to FBref.

At the time of writing, Johnson’s main focus will be keeping up this current vein of form in a bid to give Forest the best possible chance of securing their survival in the Premier League this season.
