Manchester United welcome Sheffield United to Old Trafford tomorrow evening in an 8pm Premier League kick-off.

Both Uniteds have endured nothing short of underwhelming seasons thus far, with the Yorkshire outfit set to drop back down to the Championship after just one season, while the Red Devils – now 16 points away from fourth-placed Aston Villa – could oversee their worst-ever Premier League finish if results continue to be as poor as they have been.

Erik ten Hag’s men enter the clash on a four-game winless streak in the league, consisting of three draws and one defeat. On Sunday, they were taken to penalties by Coventry City in the FA Cup semi-final following a second-half capitulation that resulted in United conceding three goals after the 71st minute.

Despite the Blades being on the back of three losses in their past four outings, Chris Sutton has suggested they could prove difficult to overturn when up against the misfiring Reds. After all, they were able to hold Chelsea to a 2-2 draw.

Blades could be fearless at Old Trafford

Writing in his BBC Sport column, Sutton said: “I don’t think this is a particularly good game for Erik ten Hag’s side to face next, though, against the team at the bottom of the table with nothing to lose.

“The Manchester United players probably won’t relish being expected to win easily again, just as they were against Coventry, but even they should be able to beat Sheffield United – surely.”
