It was an evening to forget for Chelsea’s new number one goalkeeper at Stamford Bridge last night.

His team were pretty much cruising to getting all three points against title challengers Arsenal in the Premier League last night. They were 2-0 up and just had to see the game out and not make any silly mistakes.

Then Robert Sanchez decided to do just that by passing the ball straight to Declan Rice to basically slot in to an empty net. Sanchez was not under any real pressure and had a chance to just put his foot through the ball and send it away from danger.

Then Arsenal got another one back and Chelsea threw away all three points.

Sanchez was a lucky boy though to only be ruing one mistake, according to pundit Alan Shearer.

The Spaniard clattered straight into the head of Gabriel Jesus when trying to punch a cross, and Shearer says it was a red card offence.

Shearer has expressed his shock on Match of the Day on BBC One that Chelsea goalkeeper Sanchez was not penalised for the incident

The pundit said: “They should have had (a penalty). There’s no doubt about it.

“Sanchez has just come out, and he wipes him out, Jesus.

“What’s key for me is that he catches him in the head.

“Look, he goes right through him here.

“It’s a terrible challenge.

“How on earth can the VAR not think that’s a penalty, and the referee?

“He is nowhere near the ball.”
