With just a week to go until the summer transfer window closes, Steve Bruce is still looking for some further additions to his West Brom squad.

The Baggies had a somewhat slow start to the season, however picked up their first three points of the season on Saturday with a big 5-2 win against Hull City.

Nonetheless, Albion still lack depth in their strike force and Football League World recently brought you an exclusive report that the club were in talks with free agent Lewis Grabban over a potential deal.

Grabban spent last season with Nottingham Forest as he scored 12 goals in 32 Championship appearances in their promotion winning season, however, he turned down a new contract with the club this summer.

This means the player is available on a free transfer and with that in mind, we asked FLW’s West Brom fan pundit Matt for his thoughts on a deal: “Yeah, I’ve seen the rumours about Lewis Grabban and I’m not massively keen myself.

“However, the question is would he be a good signing to address the striking issue on a short term basis and I don’t think you can really say no can you because Grabban’s goal scoring record for years has been consistent in the Championship.

“In the second tier he’s a proven performer and again he’s that sort of player who can be a fox in the box, can get on the end of crosses, Jed Wallace has put the most crosses into the box of any Championship player and clearly that’s what his game’s about.

“We’ve got Swift and Diangana looks as good as he used to be, we just needed someone to finish off those chances and Karlan Grant, whilst do having a goal scoring instinct, is not a number nine so whilst I’d obviously prefer someone younger, someone who would probably be cheaper too on a loan basis, Lewis Grabban again, has missed a pre-season, he’s mid-3os isn’t he now, but probably wouldn’t be the worst option in the world.

“I’m not a massive fan but I would take him.”

The Verdict:

You can see why Matt has doubts over this potential transfer. As he points out, Grabban is a bit of an older player who hasn’t had a pre-season under his belt which could cause him to be behind fitness wise on the pitch.

However, at this stage in the transfer window, it does seem like a fairly risk free option, especially as the player is available as a free agent this summer.

Grabban showed his talent last season as he had his role to play in Forest’s promotion to the top flight and it’s clear that he is still able to contribute and compete at this level.

What’s more, the fact he turned down a new contract with Forest shows that he has a desire to carry on playing and sees it as his priority.

Whilst there may be more youthful options out there, West Brom has a hole that needs filling in their side and Grabban seems like he could be the right man to do so.
