Wolves defender Conor Coady has rejected any suggestion that Pedro Neto could be off to Liverpool in the summer transfer window.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher recently had Coady on his podcast and quizzed the centre-back on his teammate, Neto, asking if he has put in a good word about the Reds.

Coady was quick to respond with ‘he’s not leaving Wolves!’ and then continued to wax lyrical about the Portuguese forward, who he says is ‘incredible’.

Speaking on The Greatest Game Podcast, as transcribed by HITC, Conor Coady responded to Carragher’s questions about Neto. “He’s not leaving Wolves!”

“He’s class, him. You forget he’s 21, I look at him as a 28-year-old. He doesn’t look that age.

“We were talking the other day and we were on about how he’s born in 2000 and we were putting him in the same category as Phil Foden.

“You look at how well he’s doing and then you look at the numbers Pedro is bringing up as well, and the assists and the goals and how he’s affecting games for Wolves.

“He’s an incredible player mate, absolutely incredible.”

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

It must be stressed that Liverpool have not been linked with credible interest in signing Neto and the link came from Carragher insinuating that he could be a target for the club this summer. However, Liverpool could be in the market for the forward this season given Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino’s lack of form and Neto has been sublime for Wolves in the Premier League as a young player. This means that he could be a player worth looking at for Liverpool if they are in for a wide man.

Neto, 21, has five goals and six assists in 30 Premier League starts for Wolves. He has averaged an impressive WhoScored rating of 7.11 across those 30 games for the Midlands-based club, showing that he can be consistent at the top level despite his young age. Therefore, Neto could have the potential to improve even further, given his age and what he has achieved so far, which could make him an excellent addition to Liverpool’s squad in the short and long-term.
