Not Just Tiredness – Inter Milan With Too Many Regrets & Dropped Points In Serie A Title Race

Inter Milan cannot just blame tiredness for the points that they have dropped in the Serie A title race this season.

Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInter1908, argue that the Nerazzurri will have many reasons for regret over how their league season has gone.

Inter Milan’s hopes of successfully defending the Serie A title are not quite done. They can still cross their fingers that Napoli will slip up over the last three matches of the campaign.

However, Inter do not have their fate in their own hands.

That follows a shocking sequence of two losses in the league, against Bologna and Roma.

The timing of those defeats is not necessarily a coincidence.

Inter Milan have been in action in the Champions League over the last few weeks. They have faced crunch knockout ties against Bayern Munich and Barcelona.

Not surprisingly, those matches have left Inter’s squad exhausted.

The losses to Bologna and Barcelona certainly had a lot to do with a certain fatigue hangover after the tie against Bayern Munich. That is a valid enough excuse.

However, these are not the only points that Inter have dropped throughout the season.

The Nerazzurri can hardly blame tiredness from European commitments for draws away to Genoa and Monza before they had even played in the Champions League.

Nor can the Champions League distractions fully explain Inter’s poor performances against the likes of AC Milan, Juventus, and Fiorentina.

Napoli have had slip-ups of their own. But they have managed to be more consistent than Inter.

Over the last few weeks, the Champions League has perhaps put Inter Milan at a decisive disadvantage compared to the Partenopei, who are only having to concentrate on one match per week.

However, the Gazzetta argue, Inter should have seen this coming. They failed to give themselves any kind of buffer in the preceding months of the season.
