Inter Milan are not the only club keen on Barcelona defender Mikayil Faye.
This according to Spanish outlet Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that Porto, Rennes, Real Betis, and Real Sociedad are also targeting the 20-year-old, with Barcelona wanting a fee of €15 million.
Faye is the latest name to emerge on Inter’s radar of defensive targets.
The Nerazzurri are looking to sign a left-footed defender. This would be to back up Alessandro Bastoni on the left of the back three.
Inter’s strategy is a knock-on from a long-term injury that Tajon Buchanan suffered this summer.
With Buchanan set to miss the first few months of next season, Carlos Augusto will have to play the majority of his minutes at wingback.
Augusto had been a regular deputy for Bastoni in defense last season. But with the versatile Brazilian tied up on the flank, Inter are looking for a new backup for Bastoni.
Moreover, Inter owners Oaktree Capital have mandated that the club look for a younger profile.
Oaktree do not want to sign an aging player as a stopgap solution. Their priority is to invest in a player with room to improve, as well as potential resale value.
In terms of age, Barcelona defender Faye would certainly meet Oaktree’s requirements.
The Senegalese international is twenty years of age.
Faye joined Barcelona last summer.
The 20-year-old has yet to feature for the Blaugranas’ senior team. However, Sport reports, his priority would still be to try and carve out a place for himself at the Camp Nou.
Sport report that if Faye believes he can play for the senior team, then he wants to stay put.
However, there would be no guarantee of that.
At the moment, centre-back is a position in which Barcelona have no shortage of players.
And Blaugranas coach Hansi Flick does not see Faye as suitable to play at left-back.
There is plenty of transfer interest in Faye if he is to leave Barcelona this summer.
Sport confirm that Inter consider the Senegalese to be a target. They have registered their interest for the last couple weeks of the transfer window.
And Porto have already made a €6 million offer for Faye. However, Barcelona turned this down. They want a fee of at least €15 million to sell the 20-year-old.
Meanwhile, Sport reports, Real Betis and Real Sociedad both made offers to loan Faye, covering his full wages.
However, the Spanish outlet anticipate, Barcelona don’t want to loan Faye out. They would prefere a permanent sale.
