Not Cunha or Delap: 25-y/o hailed as ‘out of this world’ by Capello is now one of Utd’s ‘main targets’ | OneFootball

Manchester United fans have been bombarded with endless reports over the club’s pursuit of Premier League duo Matheus Cunha and Liam Delap – but they’re not the only players being actively targeted right now.

Indeed, the Red Devils held talks internally over the prospect of adding Atalanta’s Ederson to Ruben Amorim’s ranks over the summer window. When the boss green-lit the prospective deal, INEOS’ transfer chiefs reached out to Ederson’s representatives.

Now, journalist Nicolo Schira has deemed the Brazilian one of United’s ‘main targets’ heading into what’s expected to be a hectic transfer period. He also confirmed four days prior that the club had sent their scout to watch Ederson – as well as forward Mateo Retegui – in action during Atalanta’s clash with AC Milan.

They’d have certainly been left impressed with what they saw, too, as not only did the midfielder score the only goal of the game to secure his side a crucial Serie A victory on the road, but he also earned the highest Sofascore rating of any player on the pitch with a 7.9.

Ederson played the full 90 minutes at the San Siro and recorded two successful long balls and three dribbles. He won four ground duels, three aerial duels and made three key passes throughout his standout display.

He previously earned incredibly high praise from Italian legend Fabio Capello, who told Gazzetta dello Sport in December (via Atalanta BC News): “He is out of this world for his ability to combine running, physicality, technique and intelligence.”

Previously, it’s been claimed the Bergamo outfit would demand a fee in the region of £51 million to sanction the exit of their 25-year-old star, so it remains to be seen if United will be able to haggle a lower price tag after potentially forking out a combined £92.5m to trigger Cunha and Delap’s release clauses.
