Leicester City are among a host of clubs monitoring Burnley’s Josh Brownhill during the current transfer window.

The Clarets have already cashed in on keeper Nick Pope and it’s thought that further departures could be on the cards, with the funds used to help Vincent Kompany with a rebuild.

And, one man who is attracting interest is Brownhill, with reports claiming the Foxes are rivalling the likes of Leeds United and Southampton for the midfielder.

But, is he good enough for Brendan Rodgers’ side? Here our writers share their thoughts…

Ben Wignall

Whilst I have no doubts that Brownhill can play regularly in the Premier League, I’m just not sure he’d get the required game-time at Leicester.

He wouldn’t exactly be a like-for-like replacement for Youri Tielemans, and then there’s Wilfried Ndidi, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, James Maddison and Boubakary Soumare to contend with as well.

Brownhill has improved year-on-year in the Premier League at the Clarets, but I’m just not convinced he’s got the quality to make an impact at the Foxes.

I could see him in a newly-promoted top flight side or at someone like Southampton, but ultimately I do not think he would be the right fit for Leicester.

With Youri Tielemans and Hamza Choudhury potentially set to leave the Foxes this summer, reinforcements in central midfield areas will be required.

Leicester’s recruitment has been amongst the best in the Premier League in recent years, and Brownhill could be a shrewd pick-up after Burnley’s relegation.

With the Foxes’ ambitions to push the top six as they did in 2019/20 and 2020/21, Brownhill may be quite a limited midfielder and instead would mainly be a signing to add competition to places.

Not being in European competition this season, makes signings like this one less necessary, but if the Foxes think they have seen something in him and that he is capable of becoming a top half Premier League player, then they have the finances to wrap this one fairly quickly.

Did John Guidetti ever score a goal for Burnley after joining on loan?

Yes No

Alfie Burns

It’s one I’m quite torn on actually.

Brownhill is a player that’s played a high number of minutes at Burnley over the last couple of years and he’s done reasonably well in, let’s face it, a poor side.

If Leicester are considering him as a squad player, bringing him in to start 10-12 games a season and ease the burden on their more regular starters, you’d say it wouldn’t be bad business.

However, if they are targeting the 26-year-old to be one of those regular starters, I’d have my doubts.

Is Brownhill really a player that is going to get Leicester back up challenging for the top-four in the Premier League? You wouldn’t say so.

They’ll want better for that and the money would be better spent elsewhere.
