“Not always been kind”: Former PL ace optimistic about Spurs’ chances against Chelsea

Jamie Redknapp: Antonio Conte has instilled belief at Tottenham Hotspur

Former Premier League ace Jamie Redknapp is optimistic as Tottenham Hotspur face Chelsea next. The former Liverpool ace feels Antonio Conte has changed the feeling around Spurs.

The North London side beat Southampton on the opening day of the season after coming back from behind. The North Londoners have backed the Italian manager in the summer transfer window as well.

Speaking via Sky Sports, Redknapp previewed Tottenham’s game against Chelsea and showered positivity towards Spurs. The 49-year-old, who also had a spell with the Lilywhites, is hopeful about the North London club.

“Tottenham have had some terrible results at Chelsea and the history of the fixture has not always been kind to Tottenham, but it does feel that this is a different Tottenham Hotspur right now.”

Tottenham’s last win against Chelsea in the Premier League came back in the 2018/19 season. We haven’t won since in the league and have only managed a draw a couple of seasons back.

Our last win against the Stamford Bridge side came back in the 2020/21 campaign in the fifth-round Carabao Cup. Spurs have lost five games on a trot against the Blues since then.

Redknapp has praised Conte for changing the mood around the club. The 39-year-old believes the players have bought into the Italian’s project in North London. He feels that wasn’t the case under previous management.

“The manager Antonio Conte has done a great job, he’s instilled that will to win, drive, desire, and the players are running through brick walls for him. That hasn’t always been the case with previous managers and they look incredibly strong.”

There certainly seems to be a different mood around the Tottenham camp after Conte’s first full pre-season. He worked the players hard in preparation for the new campaign. The opening day result against the Saints was encouraging as well.

Supporters have high hopes for this season. The club have bolstered every area of the pitch in the transfer window. And there could be more incomings in the next few weeks as well.

Tottenham won a trophy in 2008 to break a nine-year drought. We’ve been starved of silverware since. It’s been 14 years without a title and fans expect that to change soon under Conte.
