“Not a discussion” – Worrying rumours of first team player’s sale to PSG shot down by top sources | OneFootball

One worrying rumour that’s starting to trickle out around Chelsea is that PSG are interested in buying Levi Colwill, the brilliant academy produced left sided centre back.

We’ve never taken them too seriously, but we were relieved to get a very confidence word from Simon Phillips’ sources on the matter who reject it totally. PSG are a very tempting force, but Chelsea hold all the cards, and they’re not considering a sale.

“Our sources have stated that at the moment, there is no interest from PSG and Colwill to PSG is ‘not even a topic or a discussion’ on any side. Chelsea are not interested in selling and source says Colwill is going nowhere this summer,” he wrote on his Substack yesterday.

As Phillips points out, the new contract signed by the defender last year ties him down until 2030, meaning all the power is with the club, even if Colwill decides he wants to go. He’s seen as a key part of the rebuild, and will be integrated back into Mauricio Pochettino’s first team as soon as he’s fit (which won’t be today, but could be as soon as next week).

A step too far

After seeing Mason Mount leave last summer, Chelsea fans have just about been able to accept the idea that further sales of academy players (Ian Maatsen, Trevoh Chalobah, Conor Gallagher) may be necessary to balance the books. Those moves won’t be popular, but fans have been gradually prepared for it by endless briefings.

A Levi Colwill sale would go a major step further however. He’s more highly rated in his position for his age than any of the others, and a sale would be universally condemned by all Blues fans. We can’t see those in charge ever sanctioning it, no matter how bad things get. We’re glad these sources are saying the same thing.
