Gordon has mainly been on the fringes of the first-team at Anfield since he joined from Derby County in early 2021, and new boss Arne Slot has seen fit to allow him out on loan for the first time in his short career so far, with Norwich the chosen destination.

The Athletic have reported that the 19-year-old is soon set to join the Canaries for the season as tonight's deadline edges ever closer, and he will be the direct replacement for outgoing right-winger Abu Kamara, who looks set to joinHull City in a deal believed to be worth up to £4.5m.

Gordon was initially thought to be joining fellow second-tier outfit Swansea City, but it now looks as if a move to Norfolk is his most likely next step after he signed a new long-term deal at Liverpool earlier this summer.

WalesOnline claimed earlier this month that the Swans were in talks with the Reds to sign the 19-year-old on loan, but they were locked in a battle with two other clubs to secure his services, one of which was likely the Canaries.

Journalist Tom Coleman has today reported that further talks were held this week between Gordon and the Welsh club, but it is now clear that Norwich have stolen a march on their Championship competitors due to Kamara's pending exit freeing up valuable space on Hoff Thorup's right-wing for Gordon.

The Canaries' boss has made it clear that he likes to work with young, hungry players - he has not signed anyone over the age of 24 so far this summer - so a move to Carrow Road could be a perfect one for an exciting, youthful player like Gordon to properly find his feet in senior football.

Gordon first broke onto the scene with boyhood club Derby County in late 2020 as he made his first appearance in men's football at the age of 16 under then-boss Wayne Rooney, and he soon moved onto the Reds just months later for a deal thought to be worth around £3.4m.

He featured in the Premier League, League Cup and FA Cup in 2021/22, bagging his first professional goal in the latter competition, but suffered a bad pelvic injury that ruled him out for the whole of the next campaign, and then featured just three times for Liverpool in all competitions in 2023/24, as he predominantly played for the club's under-21 side.

Still only 19-years-old, he has a lot of development still to come in senior football, and the belief is clearly there that he can have a big impact for Norwich in the Championship this season.
