It has been a rather quiet January transfer window so far from a Norwich City point of view.

Up until now, the Canaries are yet to make a single first-team signing, since the market opened at the start of January.

There have however, been some departures, with midfielder Adam Forshaw leaving to join Championship rivals Plymouth Argyle on a permanent deal, just a few months after moving to Carrow Road.

Meanwhile, young players such as goalkeeper Archie Mair, winger Tony Springett and defender Jaden Warner have joined the likes of Morecambe, Northampton Town and Notts County respectively on loan, in search of more regular game time.

But with David Wagner's side currently sat eighth in the Championship standings, two points adrift of the play-off places following their 1-0 defeat to Leeds United at Elland Road on Wednesday night, they will no doubt want a strong end to the window, to give them the best possible chance of securing promotion back to the Premier League between now and the end of the season.

So with that in mind, we've taken a look at the latest Norwich City trasfer news to have emerged recently, right here.

Cadiz competition for Varane signing

One player who does appear to be a late window target for Norwich in the coming days, is Jonathan Varane.

It was recently reported that the Canaries have made a €2.5million bid to sign midfielder Jonathan Varane - the half-brother of Manchester United centre-back Raphael - from Spanish second-tier side Sporting Gijon, amid interest in the 22-year-old from elsewhere.

However, it seems they are not the only club who keen to secure the services of the midfielder, with the latest updates from Spanish outlet Diario de Cadiz, via Sport Witness, claiming that La Liga side Cadiz are now desperately trying to sign Varane, as they aim to retain their Spanish top-flight status amid an ongoing relegation battle.

Even so, it is suggested that Cadiz are unlikely to complete the signing of the midfielder this month, meaning the path may still be clear for Norwich to bring him to the Championship in the coming days.

Palmer reacts to Wagner's Rowe update

In terms of outgoings, it seems one player who is unlikely to leave Norwich City before the January transfer window closes, is Jonathan Rowe.

The attacker has enjoyed an outstanding campaign for the Canaries this season, scoring 13 goals and providing four assists in 31 appearances in all competitions. That form has generated plenty of speculation around the 20-year-old, with Premier League sides such as Aston Villa, Wolves and Tottenham credited with an interest in his services.

Speaking recently however, Norwich manager David Wagner revealed that he has received no indication Rowe will be leaving Carrow Road month, and that he is confident the attacker will still be a Canaries player come the end of the transfer window. That is something that Carlton Palmer believes will provide a big lift for Norwich.

Giving his reaction to those comments by Wagner on the future of Rowe, the former England international told Football League World: "David Wagner has come out and said he has no concerns about Jon Rowe leaving the club in the January transfer window.

"Norwich, who are currently sat in eighth place in the Championship, only a couple of points off of the play-off places with back-to-back wins, are super confident he will go nowhere for now.

"This is a massive boost for the club and the manager in their quest to secure a play-off spot in the second half of the season."
