It was reported on Friday that the Canaries were in a tussle with RC Lens to sign the Danish international, and it was then revealed that the player wanted to move to England.

Since then, discussions have been ongoing between the two clubs over a fee, as Norwich look to make another addition to Liam Manning’s squad.

Mathias Kvistgaarden set to undergo medical ahead of Norwich City transfer

An agreement has now been reached, with Tipsbladet confirming that the attacker is on his way to Norfolk today in order to finalise the transfer.

They explain that ‘only a medical check’ and ‘contract signatures’ are required before Kvistgaarden will be a Norwich player.

Whilst no fee has been disclosed in the latest update, it was suggested previously that Brondby were holding out for 100 million kroner for Kvistgaarden, which would work out at over £11.2m.

If that were to be the case, the 23-year-old would be a club-record purchase for Norwich. As it stands, Christos Tzolis and Ricky van Wolfswinkel are the two most expensive signings in their history, both coming in for less than £9m.

Mathias Kvistgaarden is a statement signing for Norwich City

This is a very exciting signing for Norwich, as Kvistgaarden is a highly-rated player who could quickly become a key figure under Manning as the team aim for promotion this season.

The fact Lens were trying to sign the forward, with Celtic also known to be long-term admirers, shows that this is a real coup for the Canaries, and he is going to cost a substantial sum by Championship standards.

Even if Borja Sainz and Josh Sargent do move on, which will bring in big money, the board still deserves huge credit for getting this over the line.

It shows the project in place is an exciting one, and Kvistgaarden should be able to replace the goals that they will lose with Sainz and Sargent if they move on.

After an underwhelming previous campaign, Norwich have wasted little time in making major changes at the club this summer, with Manning the notable appointment.

Since his arrival, the priority has been to back the ex-Bristol City chief with some quality, and they have done that with Vladan Kovacevic, Jakov Medic and Harry Darling. Kvistgaarden would be a step-up on that, as he scored 17 league goals in the Danish top-flight last season, and he is seen as a top talent.
