It has been a very busy few months at Carrow Road since the 2024/25 season finished, with the major change coming in the dugout, as Liam Manning was named as Johannes Hoff Thorup’s permanent successor.

As well as that, there has been plenty of transfer activity, with Harry Darling, Jakov Medic and Mathias Kvistgaarden among the arrivals, whilst Angus Gunn and Borja Sainz are part of those who have moved on.

Despite that, it seems obvious a lot more deals will take place, and the Pink’Un reporter Samuel Seaman has revealed that Charlie Taylor is a target for Manning.

The 31-year-old has entered the final year of his contract with Southampton, but it’s suggested that they may be open to a move for the former Leeds United man.

Taylor played just eight times in the Premier League last season, although he was absent for parts due to injury issues, and it remains to be seen what sort of role he will play under Saints’ new boss Will Still.

Charlie Taylor would be a sensible signing for Norwich City

This is not the sort of eye-catching deal that would overly excite Norwich fans, but it’s a sensible transfer that could seriously improve the team ahead of what they hope will be a promotion push.

Taylor is proven at this level over the years, and left-back has been something of a problem position for Norwich.

Callum Doyle spent the majority of the previous campaign in that position, but he has returned to Man City after his loan, which leaves Ben Chrisene as next in line, and whilst he is a talent, he is still young and inexperienced by Championship standards.

So, bringing in Taylor would immediately improve the XI, and his know-how could also add to the dressing room, as he has been there and done it over the years, which includes winning promotion with Burnley in 2023.

Of course, there would be some reservations about any transfer, one of which is his injury record, as he did miss a chunk of last season, although he has had a good fitness record over the years.

Furthermore, we don’t know the fee, but you can’t imagine Southampton would be in a position to command a substantial one considering Taylor’s age, and the fact he has a year left on his contract.

So, Taylor ticks a lot of boxes for Norwich, and it could turn out to be a low-risk, smart addition to the group if they can get it over the line ahead of the new season, which starts for the Canaries with a home game against Millwall on August 9.
