An update has emerged on Jack Wilshere's chances of becoming Norwich City's next permanent boss after his caretaker spell in charge
Jack Wilshere will not be appointed as Norwich City's next permanent head coach following the dismissal of Johannes Hoff Thorup, having taken charge of the club's final two Championship matches on a caretaker basis.
This development was first called in a recent update from John Percy of the Telegraph, who reported Norwich's stance on Wilshere via his X account on Friday morning.
The Canaries are on the look-out for a new man in the dugout after parting ways with Thorup last month, despite the Dane only being in his first season in what was always going to be a transitional campaign at Carrow Road.
Norwich were unable to follow up on last season's play-off finish under ex-boss David Wagner by finishing 13th in the Championship, eleven points shy of sixth-placed Bristol City.
Inconsistency was a recurring theme for the Canaries, who ranked among the Championship's most prolific attacking sides but lost on 17 occasions - just three fewer than bottom-placed Cardiff City.
Norwich have informed Wilshere that he is not in contention to become the club's new head coach.
Instead, Percy has reported that Norwich are looking to make an external appointment and that process is currently being undertaken.
Canaries sporting director Ben Knapper explained the decision to BBC Radio Norfolk, and said: "Jack is a fantastic person, he and I have a big history together.
"He's a great coach and will be a fantastic head coach, but that's not going to be here at this particular moment in time."
This comes after Canaries full-back Jack Stacey explained how he and his teammates would "love" Wilshere to get the job on a full-time basis, having joined the club last year as part of the now-departed Thorup's coaching staff.
The ex-Arsenal midfield star took charge of two matches following Thorup's sacking and collected four points from a hard-earned 0-0 draw at Middlesbrough and an emphatic 4-2 final day victory at home to Cardiff.
With Norwich choosing to set their sights externally, there could be a host of second-tier proven bosses to pick from in the coming days and weeks. It remains unclear whether Norwich will be looking domestically or continentally - or both - to select the club's new head coach, having cast their net overseas to appoint Thorup last summer.
As first reported exclusively by Football League World earlier this week, Middlesbrough are weighing up whether to sack Michael Carrick following two successive failed play-off bids.
Meanwhile, at Hull City, Ruben Selles is reportedly fighting for his job under controversial chairman Acun Ilicali despite keeping the Tigers in the Championship on the final day, and QPR boss Marti Cifuentes is on gardening leave as an impending official departure from Loftus Road surely beckons.
Tom Cleverley became the latest manager to be sacked when he was relieved of his duties by Watford on Wednesday afternoon in a decision which has received significant backlash, and Tony Mowbray is also available following his sacking from West Bromwich Albion last month.
