Norwich City and Southampton are locked in a battle to sign Manchester United full-back Brandon Williams.

The Saints manager Ralph Hasenhuttl talked about the 20-year old last month.

He said: “He is an interesting player and a good player, yes.

“As Olé [Gunnar Solskjaer] said, he does not think that a lot of players will leave his club so we keep on going!”

Southampton are not the only club interested in signing Williams this summer.

According to Hampshire Live, Norwich City are also keen to add United’s youngster to their squad as they make their way back into the Premier League next season.

Both of the clubs see Williams “as a cheap and attractive loan option” in a bid to bolster their defence.

The Manchester-born starlet was a key member of the team in the 2019/20 season.

However, with Alex Telles arriving at Old Trafford and Luke Shaw playing the best football of his career, it was clear that Williams would not get opportunities at the left-back spot.

The right-footed player was shifted to the other side of the defence to operate as a deputy to Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

He featured in 14 games across competitions but 11 of these appearances came as a brief sub.

He is an attacking full-back who loves to venture forward but there are still big question marks when it comes to his defending abilities.

At the age of 20, he needs more game time to develop his game.

Staying at the Theatre of Dreams in the next campaign will not allow him to play regularly.

Solskjaer should allow the youngster to leave on a loan deal to a club that can assure him first-team football.
