Norway's top two divisions have voted to abolish VAR in their games, after supporters protested its usage.
The system was rolled out in the Eliteserien back in 2023, but has been extremely unpopular with fans, with one example seeing a match between Rosenborg and Lillestrom abandoned after supporters threw tennis balls, fishcakes and smoke bombs onto the pitch in protest against the technology.
A vote saw 19 of 32 teams vote in favour of abolishing VAR, with a motion requesting “that the Norway Football Federation (NFF) board recommend, and that the Federal Assembly adopts, the discontinuation of video-assisted refereeing (“VAR”) as soon as possible.”
Despite the vote, the federation may not choose to adopt the clubs' request, with the final decision to be made at the Federal Assembly at the beginning of March.
