Speaking to AFP this afternoon –  transcribed in L’Équipe – FFF president Noël Le Graët discussed Didier Deschamps’ future as France manager, indicating that Zinédine Zidane would indeed be one of the candidates to eventually take over.

Nevertheless, Le Graët also pointed out that the question of Deschamps’ future would not be on the table until after the World Cup, and that the decision would “not be far” from being solely down to the twice World Cup winner. Nevertheless, he also insisted that he would not make the former Real Madrid manager “wait” for the job.

“[Deschamps] told me that in any case, he would have turned down an extension and that we’ll see each other after the World Cup. […] Whether he’s going to extend or not, he’ll work in the same way. If he wins the World Cup, maybe he’ll want to stay. If he doesn’t, maybe he’ll want to get his own back. I appreciate him a lot – you can’t say the decision will be solely his, but it’s not far. I think the faith in Didier has paid off.”

“I won’t [make him wait]. In order to manage the French team, you need real desire. If you’re doing it out of a calculation, it’s not necessarily the right system. We’ve just qualified for the World Cup, so it’s not necessarily the right time to talk about the successor.”
