Noah Okafor sends Switzerland into World Cup heaven

Article image:Noah Okafor sends Switzerland into World Cup heaven

Noah Okafor could not have possibly chosen a better moment to net the first goal for his country. Having played a fantastic assist a few days previously in a 1-1 draw against Italy, our Swiss winger sent his country into World Cup heaven.

The Swiss went into their final match of World Cup qualifying needing to take as high a win as possible against Bulgaria to try to finish ahead of Italy, assuming they could win too. The Swiss fans had a nervy wait until Noah opened the scoring with a header in the 48th minute. Switzerland, with our Red Bulls Noah Okafor and Philipp Köhn in the squad, beat Bulgaria 4-0, while the reigning European champions were held 0-0 in Northern Ireland. Noah, Philipp & Co have therefore secured their spot in the 2022 World Cup – congratulations!

Noah Okafor:

We knew that we had to score a lot of goals. It wasn't happening at the start, but we remained calm and knew that we just had to keep on going and the goal would come. When the first goal came, it got easier. I scored it. After that it all went really smoothly. I am incredibly proud of the country and of every individual player. We are celebrating now and enjoying the moment. The important thing is to stay fit, give our all and remain humble. I can't wait for the World Cup. I am really looking forward to it. I am 100% convinced that the future will be bright.
