Noa Lang is not expecting to be a starting player for Louis van Gaal’s Dutch side in Qatar, but he believes that he will have a big impact coming off the bench. In an interview with Eleven, as reported by Voetbalkrant, the Club Brugge winger said “I can also make a difference in ten or fifteen minutes. That will be my role. I’m going for more, but I can play a very big role for the Orange squad”.

Lang’s first season with Club Brugge was a break out season for the player who moved on from Ajax. During the 2020/2021 season Lang scored 16 goals and provided 7 assists. Last season saw a small drop off, with 7 goals and 11 assists. This season Lang has been used primarily on the bench, which is reflected in his two goals and two assists in just four league starts. Coming off the bench is in part Lang’s own doing, as he asked to not be considered a starter as to avoid an injury that could cost him a move abroad.

Lang’s big move did not materialise, but it clearly did not impact on his call up for the national team. The Netherlands will face Senegal, Ecuador and hosts Qatar in Group A.
