Plymouth Argyle boss Ian Foster has revealed the club will hold talks with Brendan Galloway over his future, although he insists there’s no panic right now.

The left-sided defender has featured in 17 games for the Championship side this season, as they battle to remain in the Championship following their promotion.

However, with Galloway’s contract at Home Park expiring in the summer, there are doubts about the long-term future of the 27-year-old, with reports claiming that Middlesbrough, Coventry City and Blackburn Rovers are keeping tabs on the player.

With his deal expiring, Galloway is in a position where he can dictate his future, and he will be free to talk to those clubs, or any others, when his contract runs out in a matter of months.

Ian Foster on Brendan Galloway’s future

Given his importance to the team recently, losing Galloway would be a blow for Argyle, particularly as they wouldn’t get a transfer fee.

Therefore, agreeing fresh terms is likely to be a priority, and, speaking to the BBC, Foster admitted it is something on their radar over the coming months.

Brendan and I have to sit down and have those conversations and see what we're both thinking. We haven't done that yet, we plan to do that very soon. But we're mindful of how intense everything is at the moment, so there's no rush to do that. He can't go anywhere else at the moment.

Brendan's been, since I've been at the football club, available for every game which has perhaps been an issue for him previously. We've managed him perfectly, his physical outputs are really, really, positive, he's defending excellently. We know what he's capable of and his mind's not anywhere else other than trying to get three points each time we play.”

Brendan Galloway’s next move

As mentioned, the contract situation means that Galloway holds all the cards as he looks to decide his next move, and it seems likely he will have different offers on the table.

That doesn’t mean he won’t stay at Plymouth though, and the player is sure to appreciate what the club has done for him since his arrival.

After starting out at MK Dons, Galloway secured a switch to Everton, but he failed to truly establish himself as a regular at Goodison Park, and a few unsuccessful loan spells followed.

Galloway then joined Luton but again didn’t play as much as he would’ve wanted, with injuries impacting the centre-back throughout his career.

So, things have gone very well for him at Plymouth, and that could give them an advantage when it comes to trying to retain him.

Yet, as Foster outlines, this is not something that needs to be decided right now, and you can be sure that all connected to Plymouth are only focused on football right now, as they try to pull clear of the fierce relegation fight that has emerged at the bottom of the Championship.
