Borussia Mönchengladbach striker Alassane Pléa has rejected a proposed return to his boyhood club of Olympique Lyonnais, according to a report from Foot Mercato. The Frenchman has played 13 league games for Die Borussen this season, in which he has accrued two goals. He is third in the Bundesliga for assists delivered in 2022/23, with seven.

Les Gones are in the market for an attacking threat, with the recent departure of Karl Toko Ekambi to Rennes and increased interest from Paris-Saint-Germain in 19-year-old winger Rayan Cherki. But that threat will not come in the shape of 29-year-old Pléa, who has been an important frontman for Mönchengladbach since his arrival in 2018. Across his five seasons in the German top flight, he has 40 goals and 30 assists.

Pléa had been a regular at Lyon’s B team early in his career, but progression to the first team was less fruitful. After a loan to Auxerre, he left for Nice in 2014. He appeared 112 times for Les Aiglons, registering 36 goals and 22 assists before his departure to Germany.
