Barcelona Femení’s dreams of achieving a ‘perfect season’ are over after they suffered their first defeat of the 20-21 campaign against Atlético Madrid Femení.
Lluís Cortés’ side completed a historic treble on Sunday when they beat Levante to win the Copa de la Reina.
The Blaugrana had already added their first Champions League and the league title to their silverware cabinet this season.
Attentions then turned to the possibility of acheiving the extraordinary feat of winning every game of the league season, having already achieved 28 wins out of 28 going into this afternoon’s game against Atleti.
Barça were just four games away from the accomplishment but a crazy game at the Estadio Wanda Atlético de Madrid Alcalá de Henares put pay to that.
The visitors recovered from going a goal down to lead twice in the game before Denya Castellanos’ 80th-minute winner earned the three points for Atleti.
This is the first time Barcelona Femení have failed to win a game since January 2020, also against Atletico.
