With only a few days left in the summer transfer window, it appears that Real Madrid will play the season with as many as three left-backs competing for the starting spot.
With the addition of Alvaro Carreras from SL Benfica, Real Madrid have strengthened their options in the position where they already had Fran Garcia and Ferland Mendy.
The idea had been for the Merengues to offload one of the two existing players, with Mendy being the one handpicked for a departure.
However, according to AS, despite Real Madrid being open to sell Mendy this summer, no offers have arrived for the injury-prone Frenchman, nor does he want to leave.
Furthermore, there is an expectation that the situation will not change anytime soon, with there simply being no takers for the former Olympique Lyon man.
Two summers ago, there were some whispers of interest from Saudi Arabia, but nothing materialised. And, there has been nothing since nor is it expected to change in the final days of the window.

Real Madrid are understood to have renewed Mendy’s contract until 2027 a while ago, although an official announcement has still not been made. And, the player is determined to stay and win his place.
Mendy has been out injured since the Copa del Rey final on 26 April. It was a serious injury: rupture of the proximal tendon of the rectus femoris in the right quadriceps which needed him to undergo surgery.
It was expected that he could be out for 10-12 weeks out. But it has been much longer than that and he is still not training with the group.
The plan is for him to return after the September international break and be named in the squad either against Real Sociedad or against Espanyol.
All parties stress that the priority is to ensure zero risk of relapse even if that means keeping him out another week or two. There is no rush.
For now, Real Madrid, Xabi Alonso, and the rest of staff accept that they will have to juggle with three left-backs this season, with Carreras being earmarked as the first-choice starter.
