He’s done it. Sven Ulreich has done something Manuel Neuer has never achieved.
In fact, against Celtic this week he achieved something no other German goalkeeper had done, at least since 2003, when data started being collected.
Ulreich’s long ball released Kingsley Coman for Tuesday’s opener at Celtic Park.
That was the first time since data was collected that a German goalkeeper has provided a Champions League assist.
Despite his excellent ability on the ball, Neuer is yet to set up a Bayern goal after 298 appearances in all competitions.
The World Cup winning goalkeeper did, however, assist four times during his Schalke career…but never in the Champions League!
Ulreich has had some bad press for his form while Neuer is out injured but has kept four clean sheets in six matches since Jupp Heynckes took over as head coach.
