In the event that Joshua Kimmich were to leave FC Bayern, FC Barcelona was repeatedly mentioned as a possible destination. However, the Catalans are now apparently refraining from signing him in the summer.
FC Barcelona are rumoured to be very interested in Joshua Kimmich should he leave FC Bayern. However, the Catalans have apparently had to postpone their plans for Kimmich.
According to the Spanish newspaper Sport, Barca would not consider signing Kimmich until the summer of 2025. The background: FC Barcelona simply do not have the money to realise a transfer of Kimmich as early as next summer.
Kimmich’s contract with Bayern runs until the summer of 2025, at which point he would be free of charge. If Bayern are unable to agree a contract extension with Kimmich, they would have to sell him in the summer of 2024 in order to avoid the scenario of a transfer on a free transfer.
According to the report, Bayern would then demand around €60 million for Kimmich – too much for Barcelona. Unless they were to realise high-profile player sales.
Interesting in this context: Bayern are apparently still very interested in signing Barca defender Ronald Araujo. Those responsible would probably prefer to bring him to the German record champions during the winter break and, according to various media reports, are also aiming to sign the Uruguay international in the summer. Could Barca possibly try to combine both transfers?
At Bayern, however, an extension with Kimmich is still an issue. There was recently an initial meeting between the new sporting director Max Eberl and Kimmich, who has still not hired a consultant. However, it is said to have been merely exploratory talks and not yet contract negotiations.
Kimmich basically feels at home in Munich. According to information from Sky, only five clubs would be considered for him in the event of a transfer: Real Madrid, Manchester City, FC Arsenal, FC Liverpool – and FC Barcelona.
